Board trims paraprofessional staff for fiscal reasons
Black River Board of Education unanimously voted to eliminate two paraprofessional positions as a cost cutting measure amid declining enrollment. The reduction in force suspends contracts for a seven hour full time and a four hour part time paraprofessional. The action takes effect January 21 and follows prior outplacement shifts and moves toward homeschooled placements for some students. The district notes ongoing partnerships with Medina Lorain and Ashland facilities to place students in appropriate programs.
