Protest Over Forced Entry Into Mine Waters by Force
A majority of the crew of the American vessel Flying Arrow protest being compelled to enter mined waters by force of arms. The crew, under contract with Isbrandtsen, denounces the action as an abrogation of preexisting contracts and has lodged a verbal protest with the American consulate general seeking protection or release without jeopardizing their status. Crew members await funds to return home, with some prepared to desert despite orders to remain aboard. The captain is alleged to have armed the chief engineer and deck officers to prevent exit from the engine room in case of trouble.
