Soldier Funeral To Be Held At Sullivan Wednesday
Funeral services for Pfc. George W. Greenbank formerly of Sullivan will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Ashland. Friends may call Tuesday evening. Burial will be in Sullivan Cemetery with the American Legion in charge of graveside rites. Greenbank, once in Sullivan schools, worked at Stimbaugh Prompter Company in Wellington before entering the Army. He trained at Fort McClellan Alabama and served with the 70th Infantry Division Seventh Army overseas in 1945. He was wounded March 27, returned to duty, and was killed during a mine destruction mission with 12 other soldiers. He was awarded the Infantry Combat Badge, three oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, a French decoration, and a unit citation. Survived by wife Frances and children Bobbie and Karen. infant son and daughter preceded him in death. His parents Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Greenbank of 582 Dehage Street Ashland. Also survived by four brothers and a sister.
