French border guards posted around the Saar since December 20 have orders to fire on anyone attempting to cross without French military authorization. The move, part of a plan to prevent non-Saar Germans from entering the region, effectively severs the Saar from Germany and may prompt explanations at Moscow.
The Saar region will see extra rations under a French friendship policy as guards begin thorough checks Jan. on highway and rail traffic to stop Saar to Germany smuggling. Allied nationals must carry military orders to enter Saar while officials keep names confidential amid Paris sourced directives.
New York Post foreign correspondent Dixie Tighe died in a U S Army hospital and will be buried in Yokohama. Funeral services are arranged by fellow Tokyo Press Corps members. Services will be held at the 49th General Hospital in Tokyo where she died.
Miss Tighe, 41, died from a brain hemorrhage complicated by pneumonia after a month in a coma since December 27. Dresses made of balloon cloth are to go on sale soon in London.
