Mosher wary of U S bombing impact on POWs and peace

Fire aboard Roger Blough blamed on oil spraying light bulb

A six month probe by state and Lorain fire officials found fuel oil spraying onto a four foot distant light bulb caused the fire aboard the ore carrier Roger Blough at the American Ship Building Co Lorain yard. Four men died. The investigation found no violations of state law though six federal OSHA charges against AmShip remain. The fire began when fuel oil leaked during transfer between tanks.

Eight month study leave for Rago canceled by Ridgeville board

NORTH RIDGEVILLE The eight month study leave with pay for assistant superintendent Anthony Rago, approved December 13, was canceled last night as two board members reversed their positions. James Yost and Beverly Reising led the reconsideration as possible legal infractions were cited. Pepin cast the sole yes vote and the plan for pay was debated amid executive session secrecy and questions about university tuition and enrollment impact.

Woman raped and killed in Bronx gang raid

In a Bronx apartment raid by two gangs the Savage Nomads and Seven Immortals, a young woman Vickie Rivera was raped three times and killed after her common-law husband Frank Vega was beaten and another man Antonio Garcia stabbed. Nine suspects, mostly teens, were arrested for acting in concert to commit homicide, rape, burglary and assault.
