EMH performs rare laparoscopic kidney removal in Elyria
In a first for the state outside Cleveland Clinic, EMH Regional Medical Center surgeons removed a cancerous kidney from a 46-year-old woman using three tiny incisions. The procedure called laparoscopic radical nephrectomy offers smaller scars less pain and quicker recovery with patients often going home the day after. Dr. Inderbir Gill at Cleveland Clinic pioneered the method and has completed about 70 such surgeries since joining 18 months ago. As more doctors train the technique is expected to spread statewide.
