The Social Security tax on wages rises from 1 percent to 1 4 percent starting January 1, 1950. The combined tax on a $3,000 wage would be $90 in 1950, up from $60. Maximum wages subject to tax remain $3,000 per employer per year, with refunds for wages over $3,000 if earned from multiple employers. Benefits are not increased by the rate change.
