Dr W E Du Bois will discuss The Future of the Darker Races at 3 p m Sunday at the Church of Christ. A colored quartette directed by Madam Bartlett will sing three selections before and after the talk, with questions and discussion afterward.
A. M. Schade was arrested in Ridgeville for hauling a crane on a carry all trailer exceeding weight limits by Burke Law. The 49 400 pound trailer carried 30 800 pounds on one axle, totaling 25 tons over the limit. he paid 50 dollars in fines and costs after appearing in court.
Chehalis Wash December 27 E A Graetinger pulled a turkey wishbone with a guest on Thanksgiving day winning the lucky break. This week he was summoned to Skagway Alaska to help hold a gold claim located by prospector Ted Carson in the interior. The pay dirt worked so far shows about 50 cents to the pan a promising find.
In heavy seas off the Port of Bodo near the Lofoten Islands the Norwegian steamer Sort land was wrecked. Nine crewmen were saved, thirteen are missing. Concurrently a fierce gale hit England causing Channel disruption and widespread flooding in Rhymney Valley and the Thames.
Mrs. Jessie Brown, 55, suffocated in a fire at her St. Clair Avenue home in Cleveland. John Lochfelm, 60, at the same address, is believed dying from burns. Origin of the blaze is unexplained. Six others narrowly escaped after fumes from a gas stove filled a tightly closed apartment.
A plan to better equalize school tax rates in Ohio districts using the state educational equalization fund will be submitted during the Ohio Teachers Association holiday session December 29 to 31. A survey shows district tax rates vary widely, with rural and village districts not supporting schools less than city districts. A second item notes Tokyo reports that the New Japanese Ambassador will file a formal protest against the exclusion bill upon arriving in Washington.
James A Curtiss of Griffin, Georgia, reported being attacked in his Atlanta hotel room by men who forced him to drink eight cans of flaming canned heat. Curtiss, burned and hospitalized, said the men demanded money and fled after the assault. He did not recognize his assailants.
In Cleveland a 20 year old mother reclaimed her nine month old son Bobby Cinders after faithful appeals in local papers. Juvenile Court Judge George W. Addams may decide today if formal prosecution for abandonment is needed.
Paris dispatch reports the council of ambassadors unanimously voting that Cologne evacuation on January 10 is impossible. The delay stems from an incomplete final report by the military control commission, prompting postponement beyond the allies’ initial date.
Chronicle Telegram notes a $50 bill lost before Christmas as William Young loses it at 257 Oberlin Road. Clarence Hambley an elevator man at Lorain County Bank Building finds the bill under his foot and returns it to the bank. Young couple later redeems the note and awards Hambley $15.

Ruth Williams a 16 year old high school student in Bial Othdent Illinois killed herself with poison at a neighbor’s home and died after moving to her uncle’s house. Norman Schulte 22, shot in a hospital. his sweetheart stood at his bedside as reports say a reconciliation followed a quarrel.
Hungarian Reform church members prepare a reception for Rt Rev Bishop Desider Baltazar at the church and YMCA on Sunday with 10 am and 2 pm talks. A banquet follows and a 4 to 6 pm home reception. On Monday Joseph Gould of Peoples Savings Bank escorts the bishop to Lorain for an address.

The North American Co. subsidiary Cleveland Illuminating announces a 1925 plan to invest 20 million dollars in power service upgrades. The program includes the initial units for a new super power station at Lake Erie near Avon Lake, with about 220000 horsepower. A northern Ohio network from the lake to the Ohio River will be developed, plus a Cleveland steam heat station and extended power lines citywide. Officials say 1924’s business slump ended in September and output has risen weekly since.
Reports indicate ten men were executed in New York area after an alleged looting spree that damaged American tobacco and oil firms. The executions followed orders from officials probing the Kalnan incident and were announced this afternoon.
