Atlas Shot Is Called Success

CAPE CANAVERAL Fla UPI The Air Force fired an Atlas intercontinental missile in a test of guidance systems and reliability. Lt Col John Powers said the shot was very successful and the nose cone was recoverable. The missile travelled about 4000 miles and tests may include new devices and a thinner skin for longer flights. This was the first Atlas launch since the satellite payload reached orbit last Thursday.

Seven Killed and 13 Injured in Bus Crash and Fire

A Greyhound bus veered into a truck, crashed into another vehicle, and burst into flames in a gulley near Pulaski Tennessee. Seven people died and about 19 passengers were aboard plus the driver. Some survivors were severely burned, many rear-seat riders were Black. The bus was traveling from Birmingham to Louisville in light rain and fog near the Alabama Tennessee line.

Ohio Bound Traveller Survives Bus Crash in Tennessee

Mrs. Aillene Rouse, 49, traveling to Canton Ohio from Birmingham Alabama, escaped a fatal bus crash in Tennessee with only bruises. She described jumping from a hole in the bus and being dragged down a bank as flames trapped passengers and the driver. Police called it a horrific wreck as two trucks collided with the bus.

In Seoul, several hundred police dragged 80 Democratic Party members from the National Assembly after a six day sit down strike. The Liberal Party, backing President Syngman Rhee, passed the national security bill 128 to 0 as guards secured the building and removed strikers from the speaker's platform.
