In Bethlehem, Palestine, thousands converge on the Church of the Nativity for the Christmas Eve vigil. Pilgrims from many nations, including Orientals on mules and Armenians, fill the ancient town while incense, ornate vestments, and sacred pageantry mark the holy visit to the birthplace of Jesus.

Romy left Rich Hill Missouri sixteen years ago to attend the US Naval Academy then captained a merchant ship between San Francisco and Honolulu. He later retired in Des Moines, married, and in 1929 his father had him legally declared dead to claim a $1000 life policy.

SANDUSKY, D., Dec. 24. The Christmas present in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Capucini of this city was the arrival of a pretty 20 year old daughter. Mary came from Italy where she was left in 1913 due to illness and has since met three brothers and a sister she had never known.
The U S Weather Bureau outlines a mixed week for Ohio with rain at the start then again midweek and toward the end. Temperatures shift from colder Monday to warmer Tuesday and Wednesday then colder Thursday followed by a warmer Friday.
Thirty miners were reported trapped by an explosion at the Mowequa Coal Company mine near Mowequa Illinois. Responders rushed aid to the State Department of Mines in Springfield as initial reports attributed the blast to a gas pocket.
In Parsons West Virginia on December 24 a swinging bridge at Otter Creek School collapsed during a Christmas celebration. A mother of five, Julia Carr, 55, drowned, 17 others injured, and her eight year old son Ralph was rescued by local swimmer A N Lone. He praised the youngsters and vowed to fulfill as many toy requests as possible to ensure no one is disappointed.
