Saturns Rings and Space Travel Curious Questions

In a reader Q and A, Col Powers explains Saturns rings originate from numerous particles orbiting the planet rather than a solid band. The rings extend from about 7,000 miles to 172,000 miles out, while Saturn itself spans 66,600 miles pole to pole. The planet rotates roughly every 10 hours, and the ring faces alternately lit by the sun as Saturn tilts 27 degrees.
