Bodies recovered as river rescue continues after bridge collapse

Two more bodies were pulled from the Ohio River near Point Pleasant as cranes work around the clock following the Silver Bridge disaster. The toll rose to 35 with about 14 still missing. Victims were James Pullen and Frederick Miller from Ohio cities Gallipolis and Middleport.

Second Elyria youth dies in Midland Mall crash

A second Elyria youth died after a three car collision at Midway Mall Boulevard and Moran Street around 9 45 p m December 18 Donald Tomasek 18 of West River Road died at 4 32 Christmas afternoon at Elyria Memorial Hospital after suffering multiple head injuries George Cotton 19 of 40719 46th Street Elyria also died at the hospital police identified Tomasek as the driver of the car in which Cotton was a passenger The accident left both teens dead.

Area man slain brothers charged in shotgun death

Paul Smith 33 of 900 Adams St was charged with first degree manslaughter in the fatal shotgun slaying of his brother Donald 30 at Caplinger’s home 408 Parkland Blvd near Vermilion The weapon was fired from two feet or less Donald was killed instantly and Paul held in Vermilion City Jail on 10000 bond with arraignment postponed until he can secure counsel.

Christmas travel toll tops 600 in six states and Ohio
