Record Peacetime Pork Supplies Seen For 1950
Washington reports the agriculture department forecasts record peacetime pork supplies in 1950 with a Spring pig crop of 62.5 million head, the largest peacetime level aside from 1943 wartime production. Fall 1949 production tops prior peacetime marks while hog weights may limit growth. Government may need to buy pork under the current support program to lift prices. Ohio and Indiana show significant increases in pig numbers and sows farrow.
