Brown to depart Lorain Fire Department amid chief search
Brown will wrap up his tenure as chief in the coming months as Lorain searches for a new chief. He will work with his successor and the Port Authority for a smooth transition while Novak notes Brown’s pay as executive director is likely lower than his fire chief salary of 98,964 plus benefits. Board Chair Carl Nielsen lauds Brown as highly qualified, citing his 28 years with the department, six years in the Ohio Army National Guard, and oversight of budgets over 8.5 million. He led 85 firefighters and contributed to campaigns including the Lorain Fire levy. Brown’s move won’t delay projects like Camaco expansion or Broadway Building work. Governor Mayor Ritenauer credits Novak’s leadership for Black River Landing, Spitzer Marina, and Rockin’ on the River.
