Women with hearing loss linked to premature births study finds
Brandeis University researchers examined 2008 to 2011 inpatient data and found about 10,500 deliveries among women with hearing loss out of nearly 18 million. They report higher rates of preterm birth and low birth weight, noting Medicare coverage is much more common for these births than for hearing women, pointing to broader access and communication issues.

Rate of hearing loss rises after age ninety
In a JAMA Otolaryngology study of 647 patients aged 80 to 106, researchers led by Anil K. Lalwani found that the annual rate of hearing loss accelerates after age 90 across all frequencies. Two-thirds over 70 and four-fifths over 85 have presbycusis, yet hearing aids remain underused, with calls for counseling and viewing aids as lifestyle modifications to reduce social isolation and other risks.
