Explosions Hit Naples Oil Depot Killing 3

An early dawn blast at a southern Italian oil storage depot in Naples killed three people and injured over 160. Firefighters fought a seven hour blaze as planes dropped foam and smoke blanketed the bay. Lorain U S Steel recalls workers for Christmas save

Lorain U S Steel will bring a second blast furnace online January 1 restoring production. About 40 workers initially recalled with potential 200 to 300 total recalls as No 2 furnace may start in February or March. Union leader Pena said No 1 furnace to run again and overall tonnage to pre-crisis levels. Pipe malls to shut during Christmas week and plant closures on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve.

Salvation Army reports rising donations in Greater Cleveland

Salvation Army officials say donations are increasing as Christmas nears in Cleveland area. Capt Deborah Goforth and Major Raymond Gilman report more contributions from Elyria and Lorain corps, with about 55000 raised toward a 110000 goal. Atlanta man harasses Falwell via endless toll free calls

Edward Johnson, a 46 year old Atlanta computer systems analyst, said he used his home computer to dial Jerry Falwell’s toll free line every 30 seconds for eight months in a protest linked to a Swaggart AIDS remark. Falwell’s group plans legal action to recover costs and stop the calls.
