Liquor Tax Bill Moves Forward Amid Party Unity Talks
Washington reports indicate Republican House leaders avoided turning liquor tax policy into a party issue. An early draft contemplates a whisky tax around 2.20 a gallon, with revenue sharing to states, plus a general beer tax of 5 a gallon and provisions for liquor trade bargaining. The administration seeks swift action within a week of session start.
