Ohio Supreme Court to review suit by Jacob Coxey Massillon mayor challenging 1931 salary cut from 3000 to 2400 dollars. Coxey argues salary fixed after oath, claims legal right to 3004 annually and cites timing of adoption and oath dates.
Amherst Ohio council discussed and gave first reading to an ordinance to create a municipal electric light, heat and power system. It authorized bids and contracts, with three readings required before adoption. The body also thanked Amherst Water Works Co for hydrant rental reduction and approved a water rate cut.

Hoover urges swift action despite Roosevelt’s and Congress’s lack of cooperation and aims to clear the plan before Christmas. White House secrecy continues as Hoover coordinates with Stimson and Mills and weighs sending names to Gov. Roosevelt. He hopes to act before a Florida fishing trip and may delay pending further consultations.
Dozens of Lorain County entertainers performed for 150 invited guests at the Lorain County Home Christmas program. The lineup featured Jim Armitage and his group and included tap dancers, singers, dance numbers, magic acts, a xylophone duet, and multiple bands providing music for dancing.
Assistant Chief Hess Lieut Phipps and Firemen James and Frank Lysaght rushed to a kitchen blaze at 484 Milan Avenue Amherst and doused the fire in ten minutes using improvised tools and a kitchen sink hose. The family thanked them and Hess noted 36 loaded shells on his hunting jacket.
A powerful earthquake last night shook the Pacific Coast from Reno to Salt Lake City, felt in San Francisco at 10 08 p m. It broke the University of Washington seismograph needle and caused minor damage while sparking an electrical storm. Dr Albert J Newlin called it a record for recent quakes with seismographs showing full amplitude for about 22 minutes.
Burglaries at Lisbon Ohio Columbiana courthouse dynamited safes in the auditor and treasurer offices and escaped with an undetermined sum. The deputy sheriff and fingerprint experts investigated as the building was sealed and auditor Irwin awaited book checks for exact totals.
Members at the YMCA outline a charity effort to assemble a large Christmas basket with food and gifts for Elyria’s needy family. In Zanesville Ohio Pearl Kimble 52 died from injuries after a Tuesday automobile truck collision.
President elect Roosevelt outlined plans for a February ten day cruise to the Cuban coast from a Georgia or Florida port. He aims to travel on a private yacht with strict privacy and daily radio contact with the press. Participants may include his son James, adviser Moley, Howe, McIntyre and possibly others.
Santa Claus visited the Elyria Rotary Club for its annual Christmas gathering at the Elks' Club. Members opened many small gifts as laughter filled the room. L. B. Hindman offered the principal talk, with Frank Wilford directing and D. A. Baird as master of ceremonies. An orchestra led by A. M. Hannaford provided music.
Elyria schools rang with Christmas carols recitations and plays as thousands of pupils closed their 1932 term. Trees filled halls, programs ran in classrooms or auditoriums, and some students prepared packets for needy families while Edison students faced two more days before holiday break.
In Medina County Ohio on December 21 a posse of about 100 pursued three gunmen who robbed the Sharon Center bank between Medina and Akron of 4000 dollars. The trio escaped in a car stolen the prior night in Cleveland. John Bell and cashier Mrs Dorothy Robertson were forced into the basement by two gunmen before the vaults were looted.
Lorain Ohio December 21 authorities probe links between the death of Eva Volpe whose bruised body was found in Lake Erie and an alleged kidnapping attempt of a Lorain schoolboy mistaken for the dead girl’s brother. Richard Bradey said he was dragged into a large green sedan and told he was not the right boy.
The Pennsylvania Republican delegation contested anew to discipline Rep McFadden for his impeachment move against President Hoover. Previously they voted to remove him as secretary and a year earlier he lost federal patronage after criticizing the Hoover moratorium program.
Louis Laeger forty, manager of the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce, was killed near Circleville when his car skidded and struck a truck driven by Arthur Williams thirty seven of Columbus. Williams survived the collision.
