Woman hijacks helicopter to free three inmates at Perry Prison
A woman using a gun forced a helicopter pilot to fly to Perry Correctional Institute in Greenville County. Three inmates, James Rodney Leonard, William Douglas Ballew, and Jesse Glen Smith, escaped on the recreation field and fled by car. Guard William Wade was wounded but stable. a massive manhunt followed.
