AmeriTrust Aims to Grow Through Bank Acquisitions
Jerry V. Jarrett, appointed chief executive of AmeriTrust Corp, says the Cleveland based bank intends to boost its size by acquiring another bank. AmeriTrust, with 5.6 billion in assets, ranks fourth in Ohio behind BancOne, BancOhio and NationsCity, and has not pursued a major purchase in nearly four decades. Jarrett notes deregulation pressures and competition from large banks and financial firms. He downplays any acquisition by others and defends a growth strategy while denying current plans to be acquired.
