Last Lib erian freighter clears Seaway after delay
The Attica, a 538-foot Lib erian freighter, entered the St. Lawrence Seaway at Cape Vincent just after midnight Sunday, becoming the season’s final ocean going vessel. The Seaway closed late by 40 hours to accommodate tardy ships. the Attica then proceeded to Montreal for repairs with cargo of soybeans aboard.

Tanker Sansinena blast leaves burning wreckage in LA harbor
Firefighters kept spraying water on the eight story high wreck of the 810 foot Sansinena after a massive explosion. Coast Guard said divers may not search for missing men for two or three days while four Italian crewmen killed were identified and efforts skimmed 5000 gallons of oil from the water.

Rhodes Scholars Break Sex Barrier With 12 Women Named
Twelve women were among the 13 American Rhodes Scholars announced yesterday marking the first gender‑inclusive selection since 1902. Scholars will study at Oxford University, each receiving 5344 dollars annually for two to three years, from a pool of applicants from 17 nations. The change required parliamentary action in Britain and was authorized by the Rhodes Trustees.

VW Loses Race To Beat Train At Crossing
In a deliberate attempt to outrun a freight train a Volkswagen slammed into a train and was dragged 52 feet injuring both occupants David Majorsen 24 and Lynn Glascow 27 of Columbus in Linworth near Riverside Hospital. Perry Township police said the driver ignored flashing lights and crossed around gates. Earlier William Irwin 48 of Worthington suffered minor head cuts in a collision with a train at a crossing with flashing red light and no bars. Irwin was cited for failure to yield.
