Lorain County pupils will close 1949 with Christmas programs in Brighton Clearview East Carlisle Avon Lake Lake Avenue LaGrange with group singing skits and musical acts. Programs yesterday covered Belden Tennyson Columbia Huntington and today Penfield Eaton Camden Maplewood. Regular classes resume January 3. offices open except December 26 and January 2. 18 year olds must register with draft boards within five days of birth. About 20,000 manganese mine workers in central India's provinces receive a 25 percent wage hike.

Marion Indiana police say James H. Perry a 54 year old New York man detained as jail turnkey admitted participating in the Willard United Bank holdup at North Fairfield Ohio six months ago. The loot was 3134. Perry was jailed for a 30 day vagrancy sentence and faced U S robbery charges at Fort Wayne today.

Merger plans announced for Ohio Public Service Company
Walter H. Sammis, president of Ohio Edison, said plans are being formulated for the proposed merger of The Ohio Public Service Company into Ohio Edison. Plans, to be completed early in 1950, include a stock exchange offer of one share of new Ohio Edison preferred stock for each $3.90 The Ohio Public Service Company preferred share, with a cumulative 3.90 percent dividend and protections similar to existing Ohio Edison stock, subject to Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and Securities and Exchange Commission approvals.
