Court Street building sold to piano tuning college
The Elyria YMCA building on Court Street was sold to the Perkins School of Piano Tuning and Technology for 150000 dollars. The school plans to move its headquarters to Elyria by August next year and use much of the building for instruction and housing students, with 64 bedrooms. Reconditioning pianos will also be sold, while the YMCA will complete its Washington Avenue expansion.

Elyria man arrested after Broad Street shooting spree
A 21 year old suspect, Wylie N McDowell, is held on aggravated murder and two counts of felonious assault after a 2:30 am shooting near Hollywood Bar on Broad Street. Frank Leach, 114, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital. Thomas Davidson, 22, wounded, underwent arm surgery. Police say shots were fired at patrons outside Frankie Joe's bar and into a building. McDowell reportedly fled, dropped a pistol into the Black River, and was captured nearby.

Cleveland Clinic Adapts Space Tech for Neutron Cancer Therapy
Cleveland Clinic and NASA Lewis Center announce a three year program using a 50 million volt cyclotron to deliver fast neutron therapy for tumors. The first patient began treatment three weeks ago at NASA’s Brookpark Road facility. The program is funded by a 519000 grant from the National Cancer Institute with clinic costs of 200000 for facility modifications. Patients will be selected from the Great Lakes region and treated by Cleveland Clinic physicians with referring doctors coordinating care. Other fast neutron centers exist at M D Anderson, NRL, and Fermi Lab.
