Government imposes strict limits on chimpanzee research
NIH Director Francis Collins announced new limits on using chimpanzees in medical research. A government working group will review about 37 ongoing projects to determine if they should be phased out. The move follows a scientific panel recommending chimps be used only as a last resort and amid debates over retirement and housing of 186 semi retired chimpanzees.
