Miller warns inflation may stay above eight percent
Federal Reserve Chairman G William Miller told a congressional panel that inflation could run at least 8 percent next year, higher than the administration's 7 percent target. He said Carter's anti inflation program might trim at most one point from this year's above 9 percent rate and warned recession could worsen inflation. He praised the program but noted it will take years to reach desired levels.

White House urged to seal N and W strike settlement
The Carter board proposes a settlement to end the Norfolk and Western Railway dispute with its clerks union.
