Mirror saves trucker hit by sniper fire
Elyria steel hauler David Gilbert, 27, was wounded in the left shoulder as he drove a Cleveland to Detroit route on Rt. 2 Thursday night. A side view mirror deflected a high caliber slug, police said, helping prevent worse injuries. Gilbert, in fair condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital, described hearing a loud noise and the window shattering as the bullet struck.
