Recession ends as Midwest to Sunbelt flight resumes
The Census Bureau reports a mobility shift as recovery returns movement southward and to the Northeast. In 1983-84 the Midwest lost 282,000 to the South and 373,000 to the West, while gains to the Midwest came from the Northeast. Interregional movers rose to 3.5 million with 17.3 percent changing residence. The Midwest also saw losses across age and education groups, especially 15-34 year olds, and a rise in unemployed immigrants among movers. The pattern contrasted with prior decades, signaling a radical regional migration change.

Ohio judge disputes juror over drunken deliberations
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Frederick Williams says jurors were allowed to drink during meals while sequestered in the June murder trial of James Sims Gresham. A juror claimed some became aggressive and blamed the outcome, but Williams and other judges deny any impact on deliberations. The trial ended with a hung jury and Gresham, 38, faces retrial in February for the killing of Shry Lynn Jackson, 24, of Columbus.
