306 Placed In Jobs In Oct At Elyria Office
James R. Tichenor, manager of the Elyria Ohio State Employment Service office, announced that 306 persons were placed in permanent jobs in Elyria during October and November, averaging more than five hires daily despite layoffs from material shortages and shifts in the automotive industry. He added that total placements for 1947 have reached the 2,000 mark and are likely to exceed it by year’s end, with trends suggesting steady employment into 1948 and a surge as demand rises early next year.

Labor openings decline amid inventories and budget limits
The past months show shrinking openings with about 200 unfilled posts largely for skilled machinists and molders. Tichenor notes rising daily applications, a near 600 pool of unskilled workers including about 300 women, and strong demand for women in stenographic and sales roles. Migratory job seekers hinder local hiring and reduce potential opportunities.
