The forecast notes a fair, colder pattern in eastern portions of Ohio tonight with partly cloudy skies. Temperature guidance is minimal but indicates a drop in the east. Forecasters expect cooler conditions to prevail overnight.
The executive committee organized Christmas basket delivery for over 600 families and issued a call for apples potatoes turnips and other produce. Donations can be dropped at city headquarters or delivered by trucks. bids for basket items are requested from growers. tag sales led by Gladys Plocher and the Friendship Club will occur Saturday with distribution from a Broad Street garage donated by Mr Hyman.
The Elyria Toy Shop seeks 275 more dolls as 225 repaired dolls are ready for distribution. Mr. Collins urges residents to donate new or old dolls so every girl on the list can receive a doll, while boys have ample toys already secured for Christmas.
Rep Ragon of Arkansas says the House Ways and Means committee tentatively agrees to set 3.2 percent as the alcohol limit for the beer bill under drafting in executive session.
The Lorain county grand jury inquiry into the death of Miss Eva Volpe may hinge on testimony from Otto Miller Jr. after a failed sheriff expedition to Napoleon, Ohio. Prosecutor Don W. Myers, now leading the probe, could summon Miller to uncover why the 31 year old Lorain girl killed herself by leaping from a cliff into the river below.
Robert Stephen president of the local bricklayers union was reelected at a regular meeting last night at the Central Labor Union Hall. Eugene Collins vice president William Mund secretary and Walter Reisinger treasurer were also reelected to serve for one year.
The 1933 tax rate for Rochester village was set by the county auditor at 1537 mills or $15.37 per $1000. The old rate was 18.66 mills. The Rochester township rate is 15.27 mills, up from 15.20 mills. These rates complete the countywide tax schedules as printed in the Chronicle-Telegram.

A jury returned a verdict for the City of Elyria in the Sophie Ehrke case. Ehrke claimed $5,000 for injuries after being knocked against a car interior when it hit a hole on Greeley street on September 14 1950.
Robert Elliot Burns, convict author, was jailed in Newark today for default of $25 000 bail as a fugitive from a Georgia chain gang. Judge Harold Simonds ordered him held awaiting extradition action by Georgia authorities.
Frank Willard Park Commissioner announces Cascade Park hill is in ideal shape for coasting after the hill was flooded. Park employees prepared the slope and many visitors have begun enjoying the winter pastime at Cascade Park.

An Elyria man and a Lorain man escaped serious harm when their truck was struck by a northbound B and O train at the West River road crossing near Elyria at 8 40 a m. M G Bond driver of Lorain not hurt Chris Parman of Elyria sustained minor injuries treated at Memorial hospital. The truck owned by City Produce Company was demolished and the track about 100 feet from the impact rested against a telephone pole, Deputy Sheriff Paul Chapman said. The crossing angle and impact location were noted.
An ice mound will be placed in Ely Park fountain in Elyria for Christmas celebrations. Three tons of ice donated by Walton Ice and Fuel will be illuminated in red green blue and amber as part of Tag Day to raise funds for needy families. Santa Claus will arrive by sleigh and greet Elyrians, with participation from the American Legion Girl Reserves YWCA and local boy patrols.

Police and a wounded doctor who serves as physician to the New York Giants faced a mystery after a patient shot Dr William J Walsh who was found with three bullets in the abdomen. The assailant was killed by police five minutes later as he fled the doctor's office. Fingerprints showed the killer used six different names.
