United Press dispatch from Washington reports a silent U S stance toward France while Paris contemplates notifying Washington of its $4 billion war debt default. Britain Italy Czechoslovakia pledge payments, Belgium plans to default, and concerns rise over credit shock and Franco American ties.
Paris reports a French default threat on the $20,000,000 war debt due the United States as Premier Herriot resigns after a 14 hour debate. President Lebrun begins immediate discussions for a new cabinet while parliament disowns the government and police restore order amid student protests and street clashes.
Belgium’s cabinet says it cannot pay the $2 125 000 due to the United States under the Belgium American debt funding agreement of August 18 1925 and Hoover moratorium effects. A jury in Judge W. B. Thompson's court awarded $2300 to Venanzio Del Boccio administrator of Panl Del Boccio's estate against Lorain Times-Herald. The petition alleged Paul Del Boccio, 18, died from injuries after being struck by a machine driven by Clarence Reimer, an employee of the defendant, in Lorain on November 28, 193?.
The Salvation Army reports Elyria kettles total $58 toward a $400 goal. Collections remain well below target as the kettles continue on the streets through Christmas.
