Ford Engine Production Could Ease Cleveland Layoffs
Ford plans two new four cylinder engines in the Cleveland area which may cut layoffs at three plants where 10,500 workers are idle. UAW Local 1250 president Thurman Payne says production could bring back 3,500 workers by April or May after a four month retooling period. Engines would equip Ford pickups and a new small model similar to the Fiesta. Overall Ohio auto layoffs total 21,600 across Ford, GM, and Chrysler.
