Maple Syrup Institute Planned at Mt Gilead by OSU Forester
Forest Dean at Ohio State University Extension forester announced plans for a maple syrup and forestry institute at Mt Gilead Morrow County on January 15. Educational exhibits will show maple product manufacture and processing. Nearby counties are invited to join the afternoon and evening program. A maple syrup sausage pancake supper from 5 to 8 pm will be a featured attraction.

Dr O D Duncan head of rural sociology at Oklahoma A and M warned Washington conference that one quarter of farms now produce three fourths of marketable products and inefficient quarters will be eliminated. Consolidation will push people from removed farms into urban industries as roads schools and churches close. He forecast a first golden age of agriculture with four objectives: keep families healthy on the farm, educate and socialize youth, produce a surplus to support aging parents, and keep farms fertile for the next generation.
