Midview Mourns for Senior Killed in Car Crash

The Midview High School community mourns after 18 year old Guy Pelton died in a car crash near Island and Grafton Eastern roads in Grafton Township. Fellow student Michael Dority, 33, of Akron, was treated and released. A large group of about 40 students gathered at the Baumiller home on Chestnut Ridge Road to pray and grieve, led by friend Andy Baumiller and his mother Susan. The family opened their home to allow time for grieving before any holiday celebration. The death follows a crash Wednesday night at the same intersection, and Pelton was pronounced dead at EMH Regional Medical Center.

Orlando hostage rescuer safe after dawn dawn raid

Police stormed a house in Orlando at dawn to free two children held hostage for three days by John Edward Armstrong. Malcolm Phillips, 4, and Tedi Priest, 2, were unharmed and reunited with their mothers as authorities pursued the suspect in connection with a fatal shooting.

Eight-year-old donates TV prize toys to Not Forgotten Box

Elyria girl Allison Machovina won a toy package on WUAB Channel 43 during Mummies Alive and promptly donated it to The Chronicle-Telegram Not Forgotten Box. The Nerf items and games valued at about 75 dollars will aid Lorain County children in need. Allison, active in school and scouts, previously helped three families with a food drive.

Ridgeville students pricked with pins by two sophomores

Two Ridgeville High School sophomores pricked about 20 students with safety pins over a week. Five students bled. principals and the school nurse interviewed affected pupils to assess injuries and urge medical testing for hepatitis B and HIV. The district will cover tests if prescribed. The two girls have been suspended.

County Defers 1.7 Million for Rail Line at Route 58

Elyria the county commissioners refused to fund 1.7 million for a rail line at the proposed turnpike interchange on state Route 58. Gov. Voinovich's office said they are working on a plan but gave no details. Lake Shore Railway Association has three days to raise the funds before meeting Ohio Turnpike Commission officials. failure could kill the Wellington to Lorain rail link.
