The Cavaliers extended their winning streak to nine games with a decisive 112 98 victory over the Denver Nuggets. LeBron James led with a 28 point performance supported by strong defense and clutch shooting.
A fragmentary report notes Grover Bud Wooten of Lorain charged with complicity in the murder of a Dollar Store clerk at a Sheffield location on November 24. Midview High School basketball starter Guy D. Pelton, 18, died after a collision at Island and Grafton East roads. Driver Michael Dority, 33, from Akron, was listed in stable condition. Pelton, an honorable mention All-Lorain County and varsity starter, had played in the season opener against Elyria Catholic. Trooper Jack Holland cited failure to stop at a stop sign as Pelton’s cause.
Thirty five officers, including twenty sheriff's deputies and fifteen auxiliary workers, served 223 warrants across the county. By day’s end, 30 suspects, including three women, were detained and arranged for payment plans at the Administration Building. Authorities say 508 warrants are active.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge Beth Whitmore sentenced Kirk Pollack, 24, of Weller Road, to 16 years for felonious assault and aggravated robbery in the Aug. 24 attack on Raymond Peden, 43, who had been comatose after a severe beating. Co-defendant Gene Scott Jr., 21, also faces multiple charges and a February trial date.
Elyria police Lt. Robert Finch faced a five day suspension in July for sexual harassment toward a secretary. Three days were dropped on condition he stay out of trouble for a year. He violated this in October in Sheffield Township when his cruiser crashed off duty. He accepted responsibility and offered to serve the remaining three days.
The Elyria Holiday Inn is undergoing a 3.5 million facelift with all 250 rooms renovated. New carpeting wallpaper ceilings lighting heating and air conditioning units beds drapes and furniture are being installed. The project aims to finish by March 31 with exterior stucco work and enclosed outside doors to reduce the motel look.
