Edward Kuhnel, a 40 year old guard at Eastern Correctional Facility in Ulster County, is under investigation eight years after suspension for white supremacist group ties. He displays a Nazi flag from his Stone Ridge porch prompting calls for his firing though free speech concerns are raised.
Incumbent Ron Carey holds a slight edge over challenger James P. Hoffa as 8 percent of ballots are tallied in the Teamsters presidency contest in Chevy Chase Maryland. Federal overseer Barbara Zack Quindel defends the process despite Hoffa protests and security concerns after about 20,000 envelopes were opened.
