The Oberlin Committee on Conditions in Ohio plans a new organization to spread reform by reaching every part of the state. A committee has formed and aims to take the institutions of Ohio out of present patterns toward a new social ideal. Professor H A Miller said changes will come gradually, not by revolution, as the plan develops.
Severe coal shortage forces local schools to run on minimal heat. Officials report limited supply and fear disruption to classes as winter presses on.
Clara Phillips known as the Tiger Woman vanished after a alleged escape from Los Angeles jail pending removal to prison. A nationwide search fails to locate her, described as the first such escape by a woman charged with a serious crime, with photos claiming she risked death for freedom.
Philadelphia publisher obituary notes John Wanamaker merchant prince and philanthropist owner of the Wanamaker stores in New York Philadelphia and Paris dies at home after months of illness. Born at 38 he rose from a 14 year old errand boy to founder of Wanamaker department stores and later public service. Continued on Page 8.
An explosion at the Elyria Tire and Supply Co Wellington branch badly burned Foster Dirlam and caused near total destruction of the store and adjacent Wellington Tire Shop. Total loss estimated at 20000 dollars with only partial insurance coverage. Fire spread quickly through the Eldo Trade store before being contained. Continued on page 6.
Oberlin residents prepared Sunday to bring home the body of William G. Henderson chief engineer of Ace Motor Corporation killed in a motorcycle crash near Frankfort Pennsylvania. Henderson once worked with Winton Motor Company founded by his uncle Alexander Winton and was a leading motorcycle engineer and designer of the Liberty motorcycle used by the U S Army in the war. born in Oberlin forty years ago.
Rose Lubitsey seeks a court stay arguing she was victim of nine traditional marriage attempts. She states she was told by the man she would become his wife in a ceremony, but he left October 14 and vanished. She seeks a divorce based on desertion and lack of knowledge of his whereabouts.
A Dearborn woman, Mrs May Blenn Ford, denies the murder plot accusation stating her husband tricked her. Detective Lieutenant Kunath reports the arrest after alleged planning. Ford accuses a relative of the Ford family of cruelty and manipulation.
Berlin dispatch reports a long hidden romance of Wilhelm Hohenzollern with Frau Gabrielle Von Rochow. The engagement to Princess Hermine of Doorn was broken amid court pressure and alleged attack by the Kaiser entourage. The affair, dubbed "the woman pays," ends with Frau Von Rochow secretly wed to Wilhelm before the match was recalled.
A consular official identified as Malta is shot in London today. The victim, reportedly a native of Farmiston, New York, was rescued from Vaiette. The report notes immediate medical response and ongoing investigation.
Washington reports the House Judiciary Committee will hear labor grievances against Attorney General Daugherty. Driven by Jack Ralston, counsel for Rep Keller, charges from organized labor forced the committee to drop procedure and address the allegations immediately.

The blizzard tail reaching Chicago and northward brings the season's coldest air, while Duluth and western Canada endure fierce winds and heavy snowfall disrupting trains and roads.
