Brownell plan to purge Justice officials at start
Attorney General designate Herbert Brownell plans a sweeping housecleaning of Justice Department policy makers once in office. He will retain career staff with solid records but remove anyone involved in scandals or closely tied to the Democrats. Brownell travels with Eisenhower to study the department and will meet with William P Rogers and Justice associates to name a solicitor general. The plan targets federal district attorneys and marshals, aiming to replace many Democrats with Republicans.
