Army cuts back medium tank and truck output delaying readiness
The Army will reduce production of M 47 and M 48 Patton medium tanks and two and a half ton trucks in a stretchout that shifts the readiness date about one year to 1955. Production will taper from five plants to two and trucks from three to two, with factories at Newark Delaware and Grand Blanc Michigan supplying fewer units while 48s continue at Fisher Body.
