Sixty four Vietnamese peasants, men women and children, surrendered to US troops 36 miles north of Saigon asking asylum amid Viet Cong harassment. The move followed a government toll of 111 civilians killed or wounded and 68 kidnapped in Viet Cong and North Vietnamese attacks last week.
Former astronaut John Glenn is expected to enter the Democratic primary for the Ohio Senate race with a 9 a.m. news conference in Columbus. He moved from New York to Ohio, has a New Concord voting residence, and may face Howard Metzenbaum in the May 5 primary. Republicans James Rhodes and Robert Taft Jr compete for the GOP nomination. debates format remains unsettled.
Senate leaders including Magnuson and Hatfield challenge planned disposal of chemical weapons. They urge halting first shipments until safety along routes is assured.
