Roanoke student given two years public service for draft refusal
Enton Eller, 21, a Bridgewater College honors student, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James Turk to two years of unpaid public service at a VA hospital or similar facility for refusing to register on religious grounds. The first resister since mandatory draft registration resumed two years ago, Eller may report after graduating in June. The judge called him a special person. The U.S. attorney pressed for jail as deterrence, but Eller accepted the sentence and said he does not mind working for the country.
