Ohio lawmakers weigh pay raise bill fate for Rhodes

Democratic leaders in the Ohio General Assembly face a hot decision on a 28.6 percent pay raise bill for lawmakers and up to 31.5 percent for officials. Senate leader Oliver Ocasek plans to poll his colleagues and may push sending the bill to Gov. Rhodes despite a likely veto. He notes only 15 of 21 Senate Democrats supported passage and that reconsideration is unlikely unless a strong coalition forms.

Job figures show steady unemployment but record employment

Washington reports November unemployment at 5.8 percent with a 540 000 rise in total employment to 95.7 million. Employment gains center on adult men while Black teenage unemployment jumps to 36.2 percent. Labor force participation hits a record 63.6 percent.
