Tax reform stalls amid corporate lobbying and loopholes
The Tax Reform Act of 1975 faces strong industry pushback as corporate jets and lobbyists press Congress. Despite initial reform aims by Ways and Means members, revenues shrink from 2 billion to 745 million, with debate shifting to the House floor. A shift toward wealth or expenditure taxes is proposed but rarely discussed, highlighting entrenched tax-advantage incentives.

Amtrak to raise most fares while Lake Shore Limited stays
Amtrak plans a 5 to 10 percent fare increase systemwide to cover rising costs, but the Lake Shore Limited route serving Elyria will keep its fares unchanged. Spokesman Joseph Vranich notes the new route’s advertising and recent launch justify not raising Elyria fares. The Elyria station on Buckeye Street serves the Chicago to New York and Boston corridor with daily ridership rising and potential winter train sellouts.

Beebe faces possible discipline on canon law grounds for assuming a secular position or for acting as a priest outside Oberlin parish.
