The City Fuel Board issues guidelines to conserve coal and improve efficiency. It urges setting home temperatures between 62 and 65 F, heating fewer rooms, and using consistent warmth. It provides specific firing tips for anthracite Pocahontas and bituminous coal and stresses proper draft control.
Washington reports a White House statement today expressing hope for a Tuesday afternoon settlement of the miners, operators, and government quarrel. The plan, submitted to Acting President Lewis by Attorney General Palmer, is said to come from the President in memorandum form. Secretaries Tumulty and other officials declined to add details.
Mrs Mary Gyer of 15th Street was injured taking a street car backwards in New York. She cut her head and was taken to Memorial hospital by police ambulance, then returned home.
Elas Tiernan, 17, a bank messenger, was arrested in Detroit for involvement in a New York theft of 32,000 in liberty bonds and securities. Police recovered 13,000 in bonds from his truck and traced another 15,000 in bonds to Palm Beach. Steven Ostovich, a New York waiter traveling with Tiernan, was also detained.
Beginning Wednesday the 10th the New York Contra will cease running the Twentieth Century Limited between Cleveland and Chicago. No 626 from Cleveland at 9.55 arrives here 4 17 has been discontinued. No 81 from Cleveland at 3 15 will not stop at all former stops.

Detailing weather, a cold dismal day ends with slippery sidewalks and unsettled forecasts for the week.
Governor Cox ends talks with operators amid rising prospects of a strike. Officials expect a 26 percent wage increase offer from the operators, while miners and officials indicate some may accept. The stoppage would curb production and threaten 6000 cars weekly output, with no ballast of shortages reported. An unrelated boiler repair disrupted school operations for a day.
Washington reports no ruling on the constitutionality of wartime Prohibition and the Volstead act, with no indication when a decision will be issued. In other news a Willys Overland truck collided with a Deter roadster after steering failure on Broad Street. the Dodge owned by Jack Flynn was heavily damaged. New England and Pennsylvania report large cancellations while overall reductions since the strike began exceed a third. Workers idle as nonessential industries shut, coal shipments by volunteers protected by troops, and digging to start in several states. Chicago stores operate noon to 6 pm with limited offerings.
Elyria and Lorain chambers announce a joint Get Together meeting next Thursday at 6 50 PM at which Lorain Board of Trade guests will speak. Speakers include T C Metzner George Duderr George Farkell D J Boone Mayor A J Horn Dr Chas Garver and E P Reidy with Elyria members to share talks. The event aims to foster city cooperation and better understanding between the two chambers. The Elyria Chamber reports fourteen new members in November and hopes for a strong showing this month.
The Federal grand jury in Indianapolis, asked by Judge Anderson to probe Lever Act and antitrust violations linked to the soft coal strike, will not meet today. US District Attorney Slack said the panel is postponed to two o clock tomorrow morning, with final timing uncertain pending talks with Attorney General Palmer and others from Washington.
The Rotary club will hold its regular weekly noonday luncheon Tuesday at the YMCA. A program of stunts has been prepared and members anticipate a large attendance and a feast of good things.
Edward Krugman files an answer and cross petition in the divorce case against Irene Krughman. He claims gross neglect and extreme cruelty including failure to keep the home, cooking duties, leaving for days, attending dance halls, going to Cleveland with other men, and nightly automobile rides while seeking divorce and child custody.
Prosecutor Move seeks higher bail for Walter Davies beyond the current 5000 dollars. Davies remains out on bond while Findley argues the amount is insufficient given evolving circumstances. Alie Lonize Garford two months old died at home of Harry Garford Jr. Funeral planned Tuesday at 2 p.m. at 264 Columbus Street with burial at Rideelawn.
Two prisoners Mrs Vern Killaher age 22 and Mary Sbevier 29 both from Youngstown Ohio leaped from a fast Pennsylvania passenger train about forty miles from the city while being moved to Mitlaning county seat by Constable E Stevenson from Kaylor. Killaher suffered severe lacerations and minor injuries, was put back on the train and taken to Kittaring General Hospital. Sbevier was caught at Red Bank nearby.
Elyrians to appear in Common Pleas court tomorrow for a dissolution hearing in a case brought by County Prosecutor Doerfler to dissolve the Northern Ohio MILK Producers' Association. The suit alleges the association is a restraint of trade in violation of the Valentine Anti-Trust law.
