High court limits busing in school desegregation ruling

Mandel mistrial in Maryland governor corruption case

A federal judge declared a mistrial in the political corruption trial of Gov. Marvin Mandel and four codefendants after publicity linked to an attempted bribery of a juror. Mayor Withholds Sign On 85 Retirement Rule

Mayor Bowman said she would not sign an ordinance mandating an 85 retirement age for city employees, seeking more talks as several departments would be affected. The council moved ahead with a 65 retirement age and a hotel tax to save about 200000 next year, aiming to replace retirees with lower-salaried staff.
