First Fatality On New Route 57 In Elyria Lorain Area
Vincent Man, 68, of Lorain, was struck while walking along Route 57 near Route 254 Saturday night and died three hours later at St. Joseph Hospital Lorain. Driver Theophil Cravett, 29, from Lorain, said he veered to avoid the man after the car ahead swerved. Cravett was not held. Immigrant from Austria Steer came to Lorain in 1929 and worked at National Tube Co until retirement in 1950. He came to the United States in 1914 from Austria where he was a cavalry sergeant. Surviving include his widow Mary, sons Michael and John, and daughter Mrs. Herman Lengyel. Body taken to Reidy Scanton Funeral Home pending services at St Nicholas Greek Catholic church. Several other traffic accidents were investigated over the weekend. 2 Treated For Injuries Richard Hall, 21, Cleveland, and Mike Caudle, 29, of Graf ton, treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital after their car ran off Island Road and rolled over. Hall said the car pulled off to let a passing vehicle through.

Auxiliary Police Respond Fast To First Duty Call
Elyria's new Auxiliary Police impressed on their first duty as Chief J E Boggs reported. Five auxiliary men were summoned at 2 38 pm for a Civil Defense test alert. First arrived 2 53 pm, last 2 59 pm. They helped stop traffic on Routes 20 57 and 113 near city limits. About 19 motorists were halted on West street Route 113 and the same on Lake avenue. 30 to 60 cars stopped at Cleveland i street limits on Routes 20 113 Oberlin road on 20 and Route 57 on East avenue. The city learned of participation at 10 30 am yesterday.
