School For Young Married Couples To Meet Tonight

The first meeting of a farm and home school for young married couples in rural Lorain County will be at the Elyria Y.M.C.A. at 7 p.m. tonight, sponsored by the agricultural extension service. Couples who are interested and not yet enrolled were urged to enroll at the meeting. Six meetings are planned.

Ohio Gas Lines To Aid Winter Shortage In Ohio

The Big and Little Inch pipelines will move gas from the Southwest into Ohio to ease this winter s shortage. Ohio Fuel Gas Co officials say the system could deliver about 50 million cubic feet per day, with potential output higher if pressures rise, while noting distribution limits and curtailment for industrial users. Small Resigns As Head Of CPA

President Truman accepted the resignation of John D. Small as head of the Civilian Production Administration effective tomorrow. Remaining CPA functions will transfer to a new overall government liquidation agency that will carry on the duties of CPA and the Office of Price Administration. Senior Four-H Club Elects Officers 1947 Meeting

Lorain County Senior Four-H Club elected its 1947 officers at a meeting hosted by Harold Krueck near Spencer. Don Breyley of Pittsfield was named president, succeeding Robert Fitch of Avon. Other officers include Frank Eppley and Frank Herrman of Amherst as vice president and secretary treasurer, Alvin Fowl of Carlisle as recreation leader, with Ralph Hart of Elyria and Else McConnell of Pittsfield joining the executive council. The new officers will be installed at the next meeting.

Firemen Respond Twice No Property Damage Reported

Firemen were called out twice last night and this morning with no property damage. An unnecessary alarm sent them to 4372 North Olive street at the Russell Dean home where rubbish burning in the rear yard prompted the call. The morning incident involved a waste paper can at 215 Harwood street, blamed on children with matches.

A Lorain county chapter of the Reserve Officers Association will be started at a Friday meeting at the American Legion home on Ohio Street. Major Arthur Richwine says 264 Army Reserve Officers are in the county and a Cleveland officer will attend. Sherwood Named Ohio Director of Welfare

Charles L. Sherwood, former Pardon and Parole Commission chair, was named Ohio state director of welfare in Gov. Elect Thomas J. Herbert's cabinet. Born in Fremont on November 11, 1883, he has served as welfare director under Bricker and as assistant director under Cooper. He is married with three daughters and is active in Masons and Elks.

Pennies Ride Nickel Meters Baffle Elyria Drivers

Elyria motorists remain unaware of two meter types, penny and nickel operated. Police Chief E J Stankard notes pennies are being pulled from nickel only meters on Second Street, about one third of coins taken, wasting money since pennies ignore meter regulation. Adjacent lots offer penny or nickel meters, prompting caution.

Auto Driver Fined 35 And Costs

Paul Meliss of 754 West River Street was fined 35 and costs by Mayor A. R. Agate after being arraigned on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. A car owned by Rudy Mate of 1514 West River Street collided with a parked vehicle on West River Street near Third at 10:30 last night. Meiss drove a car owned by Louis Porte of 315 West Street. Police found the damaged car behind the Anderson building. Porte said he loaned it to Meiss. Vince Henke and Alfred Meiss were detained briefly and released. A separate report notes W Flowers’ car damaged fenders and steering wheel after swerving to avoid a collision and hitting a curb on Lake Avenue undercut at 3 a.m. today.
