Allied and BBC reports say the Soviet Union sealed Poland's border with East Germany and closed a 25 mile strip into East Germany, placing troops on the highest alert. Berea weighs suit over HUD housing funds rejection

Berea City Council moves to hire outside counsel and sue Cuyahoga County over the January rejection of Berea’s 245000 HUD housing rehabilitation grant. Fire engulfs Elyria nightclub near police HQ in suspicious blaze

A two story brick building housing the Hollywood 9000 Disco Co. at 621 Broad St. burned after dawn with flames reaching the second floor and roof collapse. Acting Fire Chief Donald Norman said the rapid spread suggested a suspicious origin and cited proximity to the liquor store and police station as concerns. There were no injuries and nearby facilities were evacuated as crews fought the blaze.

Elyria council rejects Coachman Motel expansion over X rated films

Elyria City Council unanimously rejected an ordinance to expand the Coachman Motor Lodge from 40 to 60 rooms and to rezone the property back to business. Council members cited in room X rated movies and nearby high accident traffic at Worden Road and Rt. 57 as reasons. Owner Lester Spike defended the service for truckers while others called the motel a community disgrace.
