RTA workers threaten second wildcat strike despite court order
In Cleveland, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 268 members plan a second wildcat walkout against the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority just after midnight. A judge ordered them to arbitration after a three-way stalemate on a new contract for about 2,000 workers whose old pact expired July 31.

Mountbatten murder charges against two Provisional IRA men
In Mullaghmore County Sligo two Provisional IRA members were charged with the Aug 27 murder of Earl Mountbatten. Francis McGirl aged 24 and Thormaz McMahon aged 31, both from nearby counties, showed no emotion as they were led to jail for a special court hearing. McMahon is a married father of one and described as an expert on time bombs. McGirl is an unmarried farmer. Their lawyers attended but offered no comment.

Elyria Man Found Shot Dead in Carlisle Township
Milford Shamblin, 36, of 619 Cornell Ave., Elyria, was found with a chest wound in westbound Rt. 10 lanes in Carlisle Township near Rt. 301 about 11 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff notes lack of nearby witnesses and says robbery unlikely. coroner to rule on cause today. The pickup was parked nearby, suggesting a rendezvous. Shamblin worked for Elyria Sheet and Tube, funeral home handling arrangements.
