Thieu Majority Seen In South Vietnam Lower House

South Vietnam's new lower house election favored Thieu supporters based on official returns from 140 of 159 seats showing 58 for Thieu allies and 32 for the opposition. Independent winners totaled three. 47 were political unknowns mainly from the Mekong Delta. Despite Viet Cong attacks, turnout was reported near record with few sites hit.

Akron man dies in head on crash at Rt 18 and 301

A 72 year old man, Joseph Stout, was killed when his westbound car collided with a tractor trailer at Rt 18 and 301. His wife Margarette, 67, was hospitalized in critical condition. Rodney Poulton, 20, in a stopped car, and Richard Fletcher, 41, the truck driver, were involved. Fletcher was charged with failure to stop in assured clear distance.

Leopold, 1924 Boy Slaye r, Dies Haunted by Crime

Nathan Leopold, who helped kill 14 year old Bobby Franks in 1924 Chicago with Richard Loeb, died at 66 in San Juan Puerto Rico. He had endured heart disease and multiple heart attacks, spending 33 years in Illinois prison before later pardoned and performing good works. He told a UPI path that the crime would haunt him always, and associates said he never fully adjusted to civilian life. He moved to Puerto Rico in 1958 and married in 1961 to the widow of a San Juan physician.

Britain demands probe of Ireland ambush on border

Britain demanded an Irish government probe after an IRA unit ambushed a British armored car patrol straying into the Irish Republic near Crossmaglen. The attack left one British soldier dead and another wounded in a half hour gun battle. The incident comes amid Ireland border violence and intensified Irish army patrols.

James Hayes reported a vandal damaged his home and yard in Hamilton. Four rose trellises were torn down shrubs uprooted a bird house damaged paint smeared on a fence and beer bottles broken in the rear yard. A blue chalk note on the porch read The devil made me do it. Hayes questioned forgiving the suspect.

Record Attendance Shatters Lorain County Fair This Year

Lorain County Fair closes after a record 161 054 attendees setting the 16 year high. Walter Young treasurer hails perfect weather and grounds while noting it may take two to three years to match this year’s records. Roy Clark show and Quarter Horse racing drew 29 595 as a single day peak.
