Sleeping Sickness Toll Mounts In St Louis
In St Louis on August 30, two more US Public Health Service physicians were en route to assist local officials, university researchers, and Federal scientists in fighting sleeping sickness. Surgeon General Cummings ordered Dr W T Harrison, an inflammatory expert, from Washington and Dr Cornelius B Ppp, insect disease specialist, from Hamilton Montana. Cummings planned to return to direct the campaign in person after meetings in Washington. Meanwhile the disease spread continues unabated with fatalities reaching 45 yesterday.
